General Store has been part of the year-round line for I think almost a year now.
Mandarin, dust motes, worn floorboards. The idea came from thinking about what citrus actually meant before it was something you could buy in a net bag at the grocery store year-round. There was a time it was rare. Expensive. Something you might get once, wrapped carefully, not something you kept a bowl of on the counter. That's the mandarin in this candle. Not bright and loud. Filtered through a room that's been standing a long time.
The old wood and dust are doing the real work. They're what turns the mandarin into a place instead of just a fruit. A bell over the door. Packages wrapped in brown paper, handed across a counter by someone who knew your name.
I think about Rowley when I burn this one. It's a tiny ghost town outside Drumheller, and I've been out a few times over the years. Worth the summer trip if you haven't gone, and sometimes there are people around who'll let you into the old buildings to actually look inside.
